CMG is seeking an Associate to join our Corporate Development team. This is a full-time position. The team is responsible for identifying potential M&A opportunities and partnerships for CMG.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work as part of the Corporate Development team, under the direction of a Head of Corporate Development as well as with other members of the CMG Group SLT to assess and execute on different inorganic initiatives.

Responsibilities include the following:

Business Development:

  • Build a pipeline of opportunities to deploy capital using Salesforce as a primary database.
  • Identify and assess potential targets and opportunities that align with the company’s strategic objectives.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key industry players, investment bankers, Private Equities and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal teams for technical assessment.

Technical M&A Work:

  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis, due diligence, and valuation assessments for potential acquisitions.
  • Prepare comprehensive financial models, presentations, and reports to support decision-making processes, including business plans and financial models.
  • Collaborate with legal, finance, and other departments to facilitate smooth and efficient transaction execution.
  • Assist in negotiating and structuring transactions to maximize value and mitigate risks.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to evaluate the technical feasibility and integration requirements of potential acquisitions.

Investment Memo Expertise:

  • Demonstrate expertise in building and articulating investment memos that effectively communicate complex financial and technical information to stakeholders.
  • Craft compelling narratives outlining the strategic rationale, risks, and opportunities associated with proposed transactions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external parties to gather pertinent information for the creation of investment memos.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field.
  • MBA or CFA designation.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong financial modeling, valuation, and due diligence skills.
  • Building powerful presentations.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Quick learner; able to research and understand new industries and economic models as required.
  • Be customer focused, learn about the business to help bring value to our customers
  • Team focused with a positive attitude, must be self-motivated, and have very good time management and communication skills both in written and verbal English.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in Corporate Development, Investment Banking, Private Equity or Buyside M&A.
  • Experience in due diligence and integration of acquisitions.
  • Experience preparing and presenting investment memos and investor presentations.
  • Experience with M&A in software or energy verticals is an asset.
  • Experience with international/global organizations preferred.

Special Requirements

  • Must be able to travel internationally and hold a valid passport.
  • Willingness to work in a deadline driven environment to ensure negotiations continue as required.

Location

  • Calgary, Alberta, Canada is preferred. Remote candidates will be considered if no local candidates are available.
