STARS Training Courses
Introduction to Thermal EOR Modelling
This course introduces STARS concepts with emphasis on component design and other advanced features. The course provides participants with enough information and techniques to build a simple STARS dataset and explore the more complex functions of the STARS simulator. This course is available in Calgary and Houston.
Numerical Tuning Techniques for CMG Simulators
The course examines specific analysis techniques such as: analyzing the numerical output parameters, fine tuning of the input data, diagnosis of small timestep problems and non-convergence. This course is available in Bogota and Calgary.
SAGD Simulation using STARS
This course reviews basic SAGD recovery concepts and provides detailed instruction on the complexities of simulating this bitumen recovery process. This course is available in Calgary.
Chemical EOR Modelling using STARS
This course introduces basic chemical flooding concepts and how to simulate this process in STARS. This course is available in Calgary and Houston.
Advanced Wellbore Modelling
The course will cover the advanced wellbore model FlexWell and develop strategies for simulation of wellbore cleanup, SAGD circulation and start-up phase, and SAGD reservoir response by using different wellbore configurations (parallel, concentric strings; different types of FCDs). This course is available in Bogota and Calgary.
Geomechanics in GEM and STARS
This course introduces the geomechanical concepts from simple dilation/compaction table input to complex finite element strain/stress approaches. Attendees should be familiar with basic simulation work and have some practical experience in black oil, compositional, or thermal simulation. This course is available in Calgary and Houston.
Thermal and Advanced Processes Simulation
This course reviews the basic concepts of enhanced oil recovery using thermal processes and how to simulate these processes in STARS. This course is available in Bogota.
Chemical Flooding using STARS
This course introduces basic chemical flooding concepts and how to simulate this process in STARS. This course is only available in Bogota.
Modelling of Carbonate Naturally Fractured Reservoirs
This course begins by covering the geological aspects of carbonate fractured reservoirs, NFRs, in terms of matrix and fractures characterization and determination of its intrinsic and effective properties needed for reservoir modelling. This course is available in Calgary.
Best Practices for SAGD Simulation
This course reviews practical aspects related to SAGD that affect simulation run time and results. This course is offered in Calgary.
Practical SCAL Data for Heavy Oil Reservoirs
This course discusses the concepts and different elements of SCAL data, and how they change as a function of reservoirs heterogeneity, and wettability. This course is available in Calgary.
Air Injection Modelling
This course covers key reservoir engineering aspects of air injection based improved oil recovery processes. This course is available in Calgary.
Solvents/Additives EOR Modelling
This course reviews basic concepts of the solvent-assisted recovery processes for heavy oil and bitumen and how to simulate these processes using STARS. This course is available in Bogota and Calgary.
Foamy Oil Modelling Using STARS
The course will cover the kinetics of bubble nucleation, growth and coalescence through the use of dispersed, entrained and trapped gas in the system to model foamy oil behavior. This course is available in Calgary.
