Course Description

March 22 and 23, 2022 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM CDT (GMT-5)

In this course, attendees will learn the fundamentals of geomechanics.  Concepts of complex stress-strain relationship, yielding criteria, linear elasticity, non-linear elasticity (hypoelastic and hyperelastic), elasto-plastic behavior and associated constitutive models (Mohr-Coulomb and Drucker Prager), and Generalized Plasticity will be discussed in detail.  Several case studies and practical exercises including cap rock integrity in thermal simulation will showcase geomechanical calculation coupled to reservoir flow using CMG’s simulators.   The information and techniques provided in this course will enable engineers to build a complex reservoir simulation dataset and analyze simulation run results using geomechanical features in IMEX, GEM and STARS.

Jose, a Senior Reservoir Simulation Engineer, has over seven years of industry experience. Jose has an extensive background in cold production simulation, thermal EOR techniques for heavy oils, chemical EOR and unconventional reservoirs. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum engineering from Universidad Industrial de Santander, Colombia, and a master of Science in Petroleum engineering from the University of Oklahoma, USA.
