EGS Benchmarking CMG vs. TOUGH

This Tech Bite video, led by Ali Shariat, presents an EGS geothermal example and demonstrates CMG’s capability to accurately capture the underlying physics.

The model uses a relatively simple geometry for benchmarking purposes. It highlights the most important parameters affecting geothermal efficiency and thermal breakthrough time.

CMG is also capable of handling more complex scenarios, including advanced wellbore configurations, scale deposition, geomechanics, and thermal stress fracturing, all of which can significantly impact the overall geothermal output efficiency.

The study highlights what the CMG community already knows: CMG STARS provides the most advanced thermal-hydraulic simulation with fracture modeling, full wellbore physics, multiphase thermodynamics, geochemistry, and geomechanics integration.
