Intermediate Full Stack Software Developer, ShaleSim

People are our most valuable asset.

CMG is hiring a Full Stack Software Developer in Bengaluru to join the ShaleSim team, our hydraulic-fracture modelling platform. You will build features end to end. From React/TypeScript screens where reservoir engineers set up and review their cases, through .NET APIs, message-driven worker services and the database, down to the simulator input files that drive the fracture engine along with CMG’s IMEX and GEM reservoir simulators.ย

You will help shape the future of ShaleSim by contributing with technical breakdown of features into work items, implementation of new stories, testing of code, and fixing up any bugs found in production. The ShaleSim team is distributed around the world in different time zones so you will communicate both live and asynchronously with the team throughout the development process.ย ย

Key Responsibilities

  • Build user-facing features end to end in React, TypeScript and Redux Toolkit / RTK Query: case management (create, rename, clone, delete, share and lock cases), model control parameters, perforation and stage data, refracturing events, asset information and project templates.ย
  • Build results and visualization screens: interactive 2D plots and cross-sections with SciChart, time-series views for treatment review, and integration with the Trame/VTK 3D rendering service; export results to Excel, images and PDF.ย
  • Develop .NET APIs and services using Clean Architecture, MediatR (CQRS), FluentValidation and EF Core with PostgreSQL, including schema design, migrations and repository code.ย
  • Build message-driven background processing with MassTransit and RabbitMQ: file import pipelines with pre/post-processing, retries and notifications; job submission and status tracking for simulation runs; real-time updates to the UI over SignalR.ย
  • Generate and maintain simulator input: Handlebars-templated IMEX/GEM .dat files for well schedules, well completions, stress layers, restarts and parent/child well runs, working with domain experts to keep them physically correct.ย
  • Handle engineering data carefully: SI / field unit conversion across UI, API and 3D views, numeric precision and scientific notation, and validation rules that reservoir engineers can trust.ย
  • Write and maintain automated tests (Vitest + Testing Library on the front end; xUnit and Test containers on the back end), keep CI pipelines green and fast, and remediate security findings in dependencies and container images.ย
  • Participate in code reviews, write technical documentation, and collaborate daily with team members in Calgary and other locations.ย

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Requirements:

  1. 4+ years of professional full stack software development, building and shipping features in a production web application.ย
  2. Strong React and TypeScript skills: component design, state management (Redux Toolkit or similar), data fetching, forms and data grids, and unit testing with Vitest/Jest and Testing Library.ย
  3. Strong C# / .NET backend experience: ASP.NET Core Web APIs, Entity Framework Core with a relational database (PostgreSQL preferred), migrations, dependency injection and xUnit testing.ย
  4. Experience with asynchronous and message-driven systems (RabbitMQ, MassTransit, SQS, Service Bus or similar) and with long-running background jobs.ย
  5. Working knowledge of Docker, Git-based workflows with pull-request reviews, and CI/CD pipelines.ย
  6. Experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS or Azure), especially object storage, containers and managed services.ย
  7. Attention to detail with numeric and engineering data: units, precision, validation and file formats.ย
  8. Clear written and spoken English and the ability to work effectively with a distributed team across time zones.ย

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Interactive charting or scientific visualization: SciChart, Chart.js, D3, VTK.js, Trame or ParaView.ย
  2. Python for services, tooling and data processing (FastAPI, pytest, NumPy/pandas).ย
  3. Exposure to oil and gas, reservoir engineering, hydraulic fracturing or other scientific/engineering simulation software (IMEX, GEM, Eclipse, tNavigator or similar).ย
  4. Generating structured input files with templating engines (Handlebars, Razor, Jinja) for external programs.ย
  5. Integration testing with Testcontainers; API mocking with MSW.ย
  6. Application security hygiene: dependency and container vulnerability scanning, OIDC/Keycloak authentication, multi-tenant applications.ย
  7. Experience building LLM features: retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, vector databases (pgvector) and hosted model APIs such as AWS Bedrock.ย
  8. Experience with Azure DevOps Boards and Pipelines.ย
