Product Manager, ShaleSim

People are our most valuable asset.

ShaleSim is CMGโ€™s integrated fracture-to-production simulator for unconventional development, launched in June 2026. It couples a new fracture simulator with CMGโ€™s IMEX and GEM reservoir engines so that completions, reservoir, and geomechanics engineers can model every stage and well across a full pad โ€“ from fracture design through production forecasting โ€“ and carry the stress and depletion changes from producing wells into the design of child wells and refracs.

As Product Manager for ShaleSim, you will own what the product becomes: which problems it solves next, in what order, and how well it solves them for operators in the Permian, Montney, Duvernay, Vaca Muerta, Middle East, and beyond. You will work daily with R&D, Customer Success, Sales and Marketing, and directly with the client completions and reservoir teams who use ShaleSim. We are looking for a completions or hydraulic fracturing engineer who wants to shape the tools the industry designs with, and who has the technical depth to earn credibility with engineers and the judgement to make trade-offs for the business.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Own the ShaleSim roadmap and requirements
    • Build and maintain the ShaleSim roadmap from client, market and R&D input, aligned with the Simulation Solutions strategy and CMG product management practices.
    • Write product requirements that R&D can build and test against: the client problem, the target workflow and the acceptance criteria. Break them into Features and User Stories in Azure DevOps.
    • Prioritize the backlog against client value, competitive position, technical risk and R&D capacity, and explain the trade-offs to stakeholders.
    • Report progress against the roadmap through Product Reviews and release planning.
  2. Represent the engineerโ€™s workflow inside CMG
    • Work with the fracture simulation and reservoir/geomechanics R&D teams to turn field problems into product capability: stage and cluster spacing, well spacing and sequencing, parent-child interference, sequential/simul-frac/zipper-frac designs, and refracs.
    • Define the benchmark models, validation cases and field-calibration workflows (for example SWPM, offset pressure, fiber and microseismic data) used to decide whether a release is fit for clients.
    • Test key features and fixes from a clientโ€™s point of view before release and define/agree-to the release readiness with R&D leads.
    • Lead triage with Customer Success, Consulting and R&D so that support tickets, deficiencies and feature requests reach development with the information needed to act on them.
  3. Drive adoption and the client feedback loop
    • Run structured discovery with operators through client visits, user interviews, the early-adopter program and product usage data.
    • Own the onboarding path from evaluation to production use: welcome material, training content, example models and the online knowledge base.
    • Support Sales and Customer Success in technical pre-sales, including demos, evaluation design and success criteria for client pilots.
    • Track adoption, usage and renewal indicators, and feed what they show back into the roadmap.
  4. Lead go-to-market for releases
    • Work with Marketing on positioning, messaging, release collateral (Whatโ€™s New documentation, internal FAQs, presentations) and sales enablement.
    • Maintain a working view of competing fracture modelling and unconventional simulation tools, and of where ShaleSim wins and loses against them.
    • Provide market and competitive input to pricing, packaging and licensing decisions.
  5. Be the external technical face of ShaleSim
    • Present at CMG user group meetings, ShaleSim workshops and industry events such as URTeC and SPE conferences.
    • Lead hands-on training sessions with Customer Success, and co-author technical papers and case studies with clients and R&D.
  6. Contribute to the product management practice across the CMG Product team, sharing methods, tools and lessons learned with other product managers and groups.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Requirements:

  1. Bachelorโ€™s degree in petroleum, mechanical, civil or chemical engineering, geomechanics, or a related field.
  2. Minimum 7 years of upstream oil and gas experience, including at least 4 years in completions or hydraulic fracturing engineering with an operator, service company or consultancy.
  3. Hands-on use of hydraulic fracture modelling software for treatment design or post-job analysis.
  4. Working knowledge of unconventional reservoir behaviour: well spacing and interference, depletion and stress changes, and production forecasting.
  5. Experience interpreting fracture diagnostics (pressure, offset pressure monitoring such as SWPM, fiber, microseismic or tracers) and calibrating models to them.
  6. Evidence of shaping a tool, workflow or technical standard that other engineers adopted.
  7. Clear, precise writing and the ability to make prioritization decisions with incomplete information.
  8. Outstanding verbal communication, from working sessions with developers to client management and conference audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Product management, product ownership, or technical sales or application engineering experience at a software vendor.
  2. Reservoir simulation experience, ideally with CMG IMEX or GEM, and familiarity with coupled geomechanics.
  3. Field or project experience in more than one of the key basins – Permian, Bakken, Montney, Duvernay, Vaca Muerta or Middle East.
  4. Experience with Agile delivery and Azure DevOps or a similar tool.
  5. Masterโ€™s or PhD in a relevant discipline; SPE or URTeC publications.
  6. Working Spanish, for Latin American clientele.
