We are seeking an experienced Senior IT Manager to join our global Information Technology team. This is a full-time, permanent position. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in all aspects of Information Technology with previous experience leading and managing IT projects and service delivery, a strong customer service focus and a desire to advance the technology and security positions within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acting as a site leader, take ownership of and provide oversight of end-to-end IT operations for the Calgary, Canada HQ and remotely for our offices throughout the globe.
  • Act as both a player and a coach, leading the hands-on implementation of IT projects and providing coaching and mentorship to a distributed team.
  • Collaboratively and independently lead infrastructure, application, and business system projects, integrations, and migrations.
  • Ensure the proper functioning and operational reliability of networks, servers, and other IT infrastructure.
  • Monitor system performance, ensuring that all systems & networks are running at peak performance while maintaining SLAs and minimizing service interruption.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to end-users via Microsoft Teams, email, phone, or in person.
  • Administer Identity and Access Management controls including user accounts and permissions for various shared resources and systems.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software issues, on both Windows and Linux OS, including desktops, laptops, printers, and peripherals.
  • Install, configure, and maintain computer systems and software applications, policies, and configurations to maintain a standardized and secure computing environment.
  • Collaborate with the group cyber security team to establish and implement cyber security procedures and operations, including antivirus software, operating system updates, software updates and network equipment ensuring security and optimal performance.
  • Act as Incident Commander to coordinate incident response for technical operations and security incidents.
  • Assist in the implementation and configuration of complex high performance computing infrastructure.
  • Audit and review existing IT infrastructure, identify, and provide proposals for areas of improvement.
  • Document and maintain accurate records of IT support requests, solutions provided, and relevant information in the IT ticketing and change management systems.
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding tasks related to staffing activities.
  • Provide employee training and support for software applications and tools.
  • Assist in the management and maintenance of IT inventory, assets, and software licenses, and assisting with budget creation.
  • Install and maintain audio and visual equipment in server and conference rooms.
  • Ability to travel internationally occasionally.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Management, or related field.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure AD (Entra), SharePoint, Teams, and Domain administration
  • Capacity planning and budgeting for IT infrastructure
  • Linux proficiency, including strong scripting and networking experience (RHEL, Ubuntu)
  • Strong experience in supporting Cisco Meraki network equipment
  • Proficiency with VMware ESX, vSphere, and other virtualized environments
  • Work on diagnosing and debugging HPC hardware and software issues
  • Managing cloud infrastructures such as AWS and Azure is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience with cluster compute scheduler software (e.g. SLURM, PBS, Spectrum LSF)
  • Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to write and speak clearly to technical or non-technical audiences
  • Able to lift and move computer equipment
  • Able to manage time effectively with minimal supervision
  • Willing to occasionally work outside of normal business hours

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 – 10 years of experience in IT operations management
  • Experience in leading IT projects while remaining hands-on
  • Experience with Windows Server, Windows 10/11, Active Directory administration and Power Shell
  • Experience with HPC environments and MPI configuration (Windows, Linux)
